About
My name is Mikael Drackner and nature photography is my hobby. Normally I work with development aid, a line of work that takes you to different continents and different countries. One such country, Bolivia, is a mega-diverse place with a spectacular range of landscapes, animals and plants. I called Bolivia home for three and a half years (2006-2009) but it wasn´t until I´d already lived there for two years that I took up photography, inspired by the natural beauty and my passion for it. At first I started photographing in order to document my travels and experiences, but after a while and after reading many books on the subject I discovered that photography is a rewarding pastime in itself. I still mostly do nature photography however, and that is why you´ll mostly find that type of pictures here.
Bolivia was a rare opportunity to get up close with high mountains, deep jungles, steep cloud forests and vast savannahs as well as its inhabitants - and it also served me well as a base to other natural hotspots in the region such as the Galapagos and the Pantanal. Although a country of great contrasts and apalling poverty, from a nature photographer's viewpoint it was paradise.
While Bolivia is now in the past I'll continue to fill this portfolio with new frames as I shoot them, although it won't be in bulk numbers. The last year I have had the opportunity to shoot some African wildlife, so there is also some of that here. Enjoy!
